Terms of use
These terms apply to TAAR, the website and tool operated by TAAR-NRI (“we”). By using TAAR you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
1. What TAAR is
TAAR is a free tool for preliminary screening of India cross-border income-tax and FEMA questions, for people leaving India, living outside India or returning. It helps you organise your facts and prepare a brief for a chartered accountant (CA) or other specialist.
- TAAR is not tax, legal, financial or investment advice, and using it does not create a professional or advisory relationship with us.
- TAAR does not determine your residential status or calculate your final tax. Its results are screening indications based only on the answers you give.
- TAAR covers the India side only. It does not cover the tax or reporting rules of any other country.
2. Your responsibility
- You are responsible for the answers you enter and for checking that they are complete and correct.
- Before you act on anything TAAR shows, have a CA or relevant specialist validate the facts, the rules that apply and the conclusions. Calculations are indicative and subject to the stated assumptions and exclusions.
- Tax and FEMA rules, forms and deadlines change. TAAR is prepared for the tax years it shows and may not reflect later changes.
3. Accuracy and availability
We prepare TAAR with care, but it may contain errors, omissions or out-of-date information. It is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We may change, suspend or withdraw TAAR at any time.
4. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage, including tax, interest, penalties or other costs, arising from your use of TAAR or your reliance on anything it shows. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
5. Acceptable use
You may use TAAR for your own screening and to prepare material for your own advisers. You may not, except as the law expressly allows:
- copy, reproduce, republish, sell or redistribute TAAR, its code, rules or written content;
- create a derivative product or service from TAAR, its code, rules or written content;
- use automated tools to access, copy or extract TAAR’s content in bulk.
Briefs and reports you generate from your own facts are yours to keep and share with your advisers.
6. Ownership
TAAR, including its code, rules, logic, wording and design, is © 2026 TAAR-NRI. All rights reserved. Third-party components included in TAAR remain subject to their own licences, which are kept with those components.
7. Privacy
TAAR runs in your browser and does not send your answers to us. See the privacy notice for what is stored on your device and what the website host processes.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use TAAR after a change means you accept the updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
